In Turkey the filberts are mainly sun-dried, drying with the use of artificial heat is less common. The husks are usually removed by husking machines, less commonly by hand-beating with sticks. The nuts are then cracked between revolving millstones and blowers used to remove the shells. The kernels are finally screened, graded sorted and bagged for export.
